Being angry is truly a tense place to be and I know we have all been there. However, sometimes we are there more than we’d like to be and anger becomes a default emotional response. You may refer to it as having a short fuse or being frustrated a lot of the time. This pattern of negative emotion and tension actually affects our bodies. Did you know that Chinese Medical practitioners believe anger is stored in our liver? The toxins from the over-release of stress hormones like cortisol get stored up in our liver and can cause health issues. If left unchecked the stress, tension, and toxicity from negative emotion can lead to both mental and physical issues. Essential oils can help to relieve both tension as well as overcome negative emotions. They may even support the reprograming of pathways (helping to create new responses and detoxifying cells. I know it sounds like a lot, and it was hard for me to believe at first, but I have seen and continue to see the positive outcome firsthand. There are many oils that may help to combat anger, negativity, frustration, and the tension they cause. Here are just a few: Idaho Blue Spruce, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Sacred Frankincense, Myrrh, Release, Divine Release, InTouch, Valor, Sacred Mountain, AromaEase, Harmony, Forgiveness, Surrender, White Angelica. These oils can be used both topically as well as diffused to help manage emotions in the moment as well as release emotional blocks that have you stuck in a pattern of negative emotion. Did you know that Emotional Freedom Techniques also known as EFT or tapping can be combined with the use of essential oils to help overcome negative emotion? Remember amygdala hijacking? The tapping technique works just like any other focus exercise. It engages the frontal cortex and adds tactile stimuli to help regain control. The tapping itself is done on specific areas, while intentionally processing negative emotions with the goal of releasing those thoughts and emotions and replacing them with positive ones, or those centered on yourself instead of focusing on the actions of others. This video shows how to use EFT with Young Living Release Blend of essential oils.
Another great place to start is with a Young Living Premium Starter Kit, which include many of the oils that can help with overcoming negative emotions. My husband and daughter share the same form of ADHD, it presents differently in both of them. Obviously, my husband is a grown man and my daughter is an 11 year old tween, but what they both have in common is a shorter fuse and lower threshold for frustration. To combat this we have created a few roller blends that are applied over the liver and inhaled to help reduce tension and release frustration. Using these blends along with either EFT or some form of intentional activity to redirect thought and lower the level of frustration seems to help not only in the moment, but reduces the frustrated responses intensity as time has gone on. I asked my husband to try the blends first to let me know how they worked on his frustration and anger, since he can have a much more clear conversation about the physical and emotional affects he feels from the oils. His observation was that it didn’t necessarily take away all his anger, but it lowered the intensity and helped him redirect thoughts much more easily, even in his aggravated state of mind. I’d call that a win any day of the week. Plus my husband loves the smell of Sacred Mountain, which we discovered unknowingly in my mother-in-laws oil collection last time we went to visit. She was amazingly generous to give it to us after seeing how much my hubs liked the scent. When we got home I looked into the reference book and found that it is the perfect oil for both him and our daughter. Best gift ever, other than her son of course! Comments are closed.
