When I first started using oils my husband was pretty hands off. He knew what worked for him and what he liked and didn't feel the need to change. However, a sore elbow that his usual routine couldn't touch changed his tune. He's an every man's kind of man, a work hard and play hard guy who doesn't like pain or sickness to slow him down. He saw me using the oils for me and the kids, and saw the products around our house change, but didn't really know what these new products could do for him. If you are in that boat, lets chat. Young Living makes tons of products specifically tailored to men, they also have tons of oils that support the male body and provide daily support for everything from stress to sleep, to sore muscles and joints. So lets just simplify the what to use when: SLEEP & STRESS: Sleep is the time our bodies rest and recharge, but it is also a time that our brains process emotion from the day. My husband carries job stress, financial stress at times, family and relationship stress, and so much more on his shoulders. He needs to process all that and rest his hardworking body well to get up and do it all again tomorrow. So we have tried different combinations to find the sleep solutions that work best for him. Here is a list of the different options from Young Living we have tried for sleep: Valor, Vetiver, Cedarwood combo - 10 drops each in a 10ml roller with FCO These 3 oils are great for relaxation and sleep support and they are my husbands go to. He rubs the roller on his feet, big toe (brain connection) and back of his neck and out he goes. Tranquil Roller Not everyone wants to DIY rollers at home, so this bad boy is sold pre-made and ready to roll on. SleepEssence This is actually a supplement that supports sleep naturally with oils and naturally derived melatonin, however like all supplements you need to give it time for your body to adjust. Most people think they try it once and it doesn't work so they are done, but 2-3 weeks is actually a better gauge of success. Frankincense, Orange, Stress Away, Peace & Calming & Lavender These oils relax and provide emotional support which may support those who struggle to fall asleep due to stress or what I call "nonstop brain." They can be applied to the feet and neck as well as diffused to create a relaxing atmosphere. Check out the 101 blog to learn more about why inhaling oils works wonders for your brain and body. Stress is something we all deal with to some degree. But did you know there are different types of stress? I'm sure emotional stress is no mystery, outside circumstances or inner turmoil can cause us to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Oils can help us get past those feeling and move on to solutions or managing situations and feelings in a healthy natural way. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of really tough stuff in the our world today that needs professional training (I say training because you go to school to learn skills for success and you go to counseling to learn skills to handle emotions. I talk more about this in the emotions and oils blog post) Anyways, oils help with stress! Valor is a favorite for stress management for everyone from CEOs to first responders and everyone in between. Applied straight from the bottle with a roller filament or grab a Valor Roller and put it between your wrists or on the crown of your head, and don't forget to inhale it deeply 3 times. Other oils for stress include Stress Away, Citrus Fresh, Frankincense, Believe, and so many more I can't list them all. Being active comes with its challenges and we know that in our family more than most. With 4 kids, working as a tradesman, and playing basketball and soccer for fun there is no shortage of soreness for my husband. Thankfully we have loads of options for soothing those muscles. Panaway This oil is awesome for sore muscles. Just add a few drops to some coconut oil or other oil or lotion and apply where it hurts. Other oils that can be added are Aroma Siez, Palo Santo, Wintergreen, Lemongrass, Copaiba, Peppermint and more. Most of these oils are hot (meaning they need to de diluted with something like coconut oil or lotion so they don't feel like they are burning the skin.) Deep Relief, Cool Azul Pain Cream & Sports Gel, and Orthosport massage oil: If you are anything like my husband you don't want to waste time trying to make stuff for yourself at home. So he always carries a Deep Relief roller, and we stay stock up Cool Azul Pain Cream for easy application. Before and after a workout he'll rub on some Cool Azul Sports Gel as well, and he likes the Orthosport massage oil after a long day. They are all easy remade and ready to use. Agilease, Aminowise, & Alkalime In addition to oils and applying things topically, as a wise man my husband supports his muscles and joints from the inside. Agilease is his daily go to. It has tons of good stuff and he can really tell the difference when he doesn't take it. Aminowise and Alkalime are designed for after working out and support muscle recovery and healthy function. You can learn more about these on the supplement blog. We all get a little digestive discomfort from time to time, but no one really wants to deal with it for long. Digize mixed with Peppermint and applied in a counterclockwise direction to the abdomen or up the esophagus can help to relieve the issues of digestive discomfort. My husband even takes 2 drops each and adds them to an empty capsule and takes it before bed when he has eaten too much or just enough of the wrong stuff. He also takes Life9 probiotics and Essentialzymes-4 for digestive support. There is more information about digestive support and supplements on the Supplements Blog. Staying well is important, and to keep it easier Young Living has easy application roll ons like Thieves (immune booster) and Breath Again (respiratory support). For those who want to make your own blends and diffuse them to keep healthy Thieves, Raven, RC, and Purification are all great oils to help. There are also loads of vitamin and supplements to keep you well, and most importantly Ningxia Red daily can make a huge difference in staying above the wellness line and supporting a healthy immune system and body functions as a whole. Men are hardworking and that can mean a lot of grease and grime. Thieves cleaner and Lemon oil are a great combo for cleaning anything without harsh chemicals, and yes they still get the job done right! We can't even count the amount of times Thieves has worked and cleaned stuff other stuff couldn't For all other keeping clean needs there is the Shutran line of products. From soaps, to shaving, to beard oils, and everything in between Young Living has loads of just for men products that smell incredible (I personally love the smell of my husband with Shut-in on and he says it makes him feel like he can tackle the day - cuz oils do that!) So how do you get started using non-toxic products that aren't filled with hormone disruptors, cancer causing crap and generally good for the planet sustainable ingredients? All you have to do is become a member of Young Living with a Starter Kit (I recommend either the Essential Oils Premium Starter with Rhinestone Diffuser or the Ningxia Red Premium Starter Kit for most men) and then check the box at sign up to get a customizable monthly subscription box with Essential Rewards.
